Ben Simmons

NEW YORK (AP) — For the second time in three years, Ben Simmons has undergone back surgery. Both he and the Brooklyn Nets are hopeful that this procedure will bring him the relief he needs to play out the whole season.

According to the Nets, Simmons underwent a microscopic partial discectomy on Thursday in order to relieve his lower back’s pinched nerve. Dr. Timur Urakov carried out the procedure at UHealth Jackson Memorial Medical Center after consulting with Dr. Barth Green.

It is anticipated that the top choice in the 2016 NBA draft would fully recuperate in time for training camp the following year. Since the Nets acquired him from Philadelphia during the 2021–2022 season, he has only appeared in 57 games.

After being out for the first part of the season due to mental health issues, Simmons attempted to get back into shape after the trade but injured his back in the process. After the season, he underwent a microdiscectomy, a technique to remove a little piece of a bulging disc ( Ben Simmons Back Surgery.

The missing show and the average

Following that, Simmons appeared in just 42 games in 2022–2023 before missing all of them due to a lower back nerve impingement that required surgery in March. Simmons was only able to play in 15 games this season after suffering the injury just six games into the season. At one point, he missed 38 straight games.

The three-time All-Star will not play again this season, the Nets said last week, preferring to pursue treatment options.

Simmons averaged 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in the end. Under his current contract, he has one year and around $40 million left.
