In the regular season, the two teams squared off twice. The first game took place in Ames on January 9 and was won by Iowa State. That game was won 57-53 by the Cyclones. The Cougars prevailed 73-65 in the rematch on February 19 in Houston.

Both teams are anticipated to receive strong seeds in the NCAA Tournament when the bracket is revealed on Sunday afternoon, regardless of how the game turns out.
