Nate Robinson

Nate Robinson, a former NBA journeyman and three-time slamdunk contest champion, recently shared a health update that has raised concerns. In 2022, Robinson bravely opened up about his battle with renal kidney failure.

The former NBA player has chosen to keep his struggle with kidney failure mostly out of the public eye, but his most recent update seems to indicate a concerning development. According to Jake Nisse from the Daily Mail, Robinson has been undergoing dialysis. According to Robinson, this is the sole reason for his current survival. However, he has doubts about the treatment’s ability to prolong his life.

“I know that I don’t have long if I can’t get a kidney,” Robinson said. “I know I’m not going to have long to live. So I just want to make the best of it as much as I can.

“Some people’s body reject dialysis,” Robinson added. “And thank God mine accepts it and I can live. If I didn’t go to dialysis, I wouldn’t live probably longer than a week or two.”

Although Nate Robinson never made an All-Star team, he gained a strong following among fans for his ability to deliver impressive highlights on any given night, despite his height of only 5-foot-9.

He gained recognition for his impressive defensive plays against Shaquille O’Neal and Yao Ming. In addition to winning the Slam Dunk Contest multiple times, he even emerged victorious over the towering 6-foot-11 Dwight Howard in the 2009 contest.

Nate Robinson discovered kidney issues while he was with the New York Knicks

Although Nate Robinson’s renal kidney failure has been public knowledge since 2002, the 11-year NBA veteran became aware of it during the early stages of his NBA career.

During an interview on the YouTube channel Playmaker HQ, Robinson revealed that he became aware of his health issues back in 2006 while he was a player for the New York Knicks.

With a draft year of 2005, this marked only his second season in the NBA.
According to him, his doctor conducted a series of tests. As a result of these findings, he discovered that his kidney failure was a result of elevated blood pressure. Nevertheless, the 5-foot9 guard refused to let this hinder his remarkable NBA career.

He had a successful 11-season-long career in the NBA from 2005 to 2016. In addition, he had experience playing internationally and in the Big 3 league before ultimately retiring from his professional basketball career.

Despite his height, Nate Robinson has the unique achievement of being the only NBA player to win the slam-dunk contest three times. This achievement stands as the highest number of wins in NBA history to date.

He achieved his first victory in 2006 while playing for the New York Knicks. In the final round, he faced off against Andre Iguodala, while Josh Smith and Hakim Warrick were eliminated in the first round. In his attempt to retain his crown, he faced tough competition in the final round and ultimately lost to Gerald Green.

Following a one-year hiatus from the Slam Dunk contest, he made his comeback in 2009. He went head-to-head with the 2008 champion, Dwight Howard. In 2010, Robinson managed to defend his slam dunk title, narrowly defeating DeMar DeRozan.
